Mission Statement

ldp about jpWelcome! My name is Jack Pearce, and I am the founder of Let’s Draw People! It is the mission of this website to awaken the inner artist in everyday people (including YOU)…by drawing people! I believe that no matter which path in life you followed, you can rediscover and reignite that childhood passion of drawing you had when you were scribbling smiley faces and sketching stick figures. The reason I put this site together is to help other “aspiring” portrait artists who wish to improve their skills when it comes to drawing people.

The Goal

My goal is to build a community of people from all walks of life who commit to spending more time on what they have always enjoyed doing…drawing people! My aim is for people who don’t draw everyday to realize their true hidden talents and potential, to begin creating portraits that will amaze themselves and those they know and love.

How It’s All Done

Maybe you wish to learn how to draw something more advanced than a stick person. You wanted to learn but life got in the way, and now your kids can draw people better than you. Or, maybe you already have some artistic talent, but you always struggle when it comes to drawing people. You often say, “Does her face look right to you?” or “I can’t keep from drawing his hand crooked.”

Whether you are just starting to draw all over again or you have some experience, Let’s Draw People lets you take your skills as a beginning or intermediate portrait artist to the next level. Here you will find tips and techniques to help you draw the human face and form in a variety of styles. You will find informative articles, step-by-step tutorials and pictures, and how-to videos by a selection of artists that can accommodate your needs and abilities. As your skills develop and your confidence builds, you may be willing to share your work on this site to have your artwork recognized and appreciated by others. Better yet, you may eventually be able to become a contributing artist and author!

How It All Got Started

self portrait sketchI have had a love for drawing ever since I was 3 years old and never really grew out of it. Although I loved drawing everything under the sun, I always had a special fascination with drawing people. The more my skills developed, the more I wanted to focus on drawing people, especially realistic portraits in pencil (my favorite medium). Like many other artists, I also have a day job in another field. Still, my love for drawing has given me the opportunity to draw many commissioned portraits for people wanting custom portrait artwork, and I still draw and sketch people in my spare time for fun.

Whenever I do draw people, it triggers that childhood passion and desire to draw all the time. I formed Let’s Draw People as a way to bring together others who have similar experiences, who would love nothing more than to have the freedom to draw all day long as they so innocently did as kids. My hope is for this website to bring together aspiring portrait artists of all ability levels who want to share their knowledge and artwork, to help others enhance their skills, and to motivate each other to carve out more time for their passion for drawing, no matter how much life gets in the way.
